What’s happening in OMSA
Welcome to the new Otago Malaysian Students Association website!
1. Update from the President:
Dear OMSA members,
I hope you have been enjoying your holidays thus far; and for those med students who have already started your semester - the rest of us sympathize (nyehehehe).
This email is a quick and informal update on OMSA second semester events.
The second semester Clubs Day will be held on the 15th of July, from 10 pm til 4 pm, at Clubs and Societies Centre. Many of you have (obviously) enlisted as our members, but if you have friends who are interested in joining the club or if you are simply looking to collect your member cards, do drop by our booth on the day.
The International Food Fest will be held on the 16th of July, from 7 pm , at the Union Lawn area. Along with various international students associations’ providing food for all of you to enjoy, there will be an array of activities for you to participate and/or admire during the night (like the Ferris wheel, amongst others).
Our menu will consist of:
Ayam Percik (including rice and veges) at 5ZD,
Kek Batik / Malaysian Chocolate Fudge at 2NZD, and
Teh Tarik at 2NZD.
OMSA’s second semester BBQ for newcomers and Annual General Meeting will be held on the 26th of July, at Clubs and Societies, Activities Hall. This event will begin at 12pm, and we hope for your attendance; the AGM will determine the 2009/2010 executive committee members and your vote will count towards a successful year ahead for OMSA.
More information on the BBQ and the AGM will be provided as the date approaches, so please watch this space. Also if you feel that you are able to contribute to next year’s OMSA committee, or know of someone who is interested in doing so, please do flick us an email; suggestions are always welcomed and appreciated.
Due to growing interest, the OMSA committee has decided to organize an OMSA Ski Trip from the 31st of July til the 2nd of August. We will open a booth from the 14th til the 16th of July, at the Union Foyer, from 12 to 2pm for registration and payment. Places are limited to only 20 slots, so do drop by if you plan on joining the trip. We promise for it to be an exciting one! Attached to the email is the price details for the OMSA Ski trip.
Also our sports officer, Chyi Mei, would also like to stress these (positive) points in regards to our ski trip:
-Remarkables is very near to Queenstown, Cadrona is 30min further.
-starters package, skiers/boarders are allowed to use the beginners lift after 3pm, after their lessons, whereas many other ski fields do not have this access for starters.
-Accomodation is very new and at heart of the town.
LAST but not least, we have the Malam Malaysia ie Malaysian Cultural Night, which will be held on the 8th of August, 7.30 pm at the Teacher’s College Auditorium. This year, the Malam Malaysia production will be an interpretation of Si Tanggang. The OMSA committee, as well as other OMSA members have been hard at work practicing and working behind the scenes to assure the highest standard of performance for the night. If any of you are interested in participating, or contributing in any way, please do email or text any of the OMSA committee members and we will do our best to fit you into our production (holla to Jasmine Bhatt! who has volunteered to produce a video presentation for the night!). Ticket prices and sales details will be out soon, we will definitely inform you of them when the time comes.
My oh my, I’m quite aware of the amount of detail presented in this email, and for that I apologize. However the OMSA committee do feel it is our responsibility to consistently keep you up to date, thus the copious amounts of emails throughout the year (as well as this particular one). Also this is the last stretch of events for the 2008/2009 OMSA committee before we officially step down in mid,September/ early October, so we want to make them count, ergo we need your full support (as you have been so graciously supportive of us for the last year).
No worries if the information is too much to digest, for we will definitely keep you up to date of the individual events as their dates approach so do watch this space.
We hope the ones who are still on holiday will enjoy the rest of it, and to also hope you keep warm and well! We will see you all very soon.
Regards,
Nadiah Ahmad
